Question of the WeekShare your favorite vacation, your dream vacation or anything in between.

Just so no one thinks I’m a world traveler, my parents never took us on any big vacations. We went to Pennsylvania Dutch Country from our home in New York several times when we were little. I didn’t board my first plane until I was 21, when my boyfriend (future husband) and I took a trip to Acapulco, Mexico. We didn’t get on a plane for another 10 yrs until we took our daughters to Florida to meet their great-grandmother, who lived a half hour from Disney. Three times we ventured there when the kids were between the ages of 2 and 7. NOT a vacation at all.

We decided we had enough of Disney, and although we knew their great-grandmother loved seeing them, we booked an all inclusive vacation to Jamaica the following year, and had a blast! The day we returned home, we learned my husband’s grandmother had passed away!  Yes, we felt like it was out fault.

We never went on a vacation again.

Six years later, my co-worker moved to France for two years for her husbands job, and invited us to stay with them for a week. My husband didnt think it would be a ‘fun’ vacation and stayed home. The girls and I had an Amazing Time!

We stayed with my co-worker for four nights and visited France, Switzerland and Italy. She showed us all the sites and we had a great time. Then I took my daughters back on a plane and we rented an apartment in Paris for three days. I can’t tell you how cool it was to have our own apartment in Paris. We felt like we actually lived there. We left every morning, stopped at a local street market, picked up our fruit breakfast and started out on our adventures, seeing all the sites in three days.

Three girls on the loose in Paris. We definitely want to go back one day. The girls were young there, too.

  1. Glad you enjoyed it. I must admit, I am anti-France and have no interest in seeing it. Thank you for sharing.
